Jimmy Nelson is a British photographer who made a book and a photo exhibition entitled "Before They Pass Away" ( "Before they disappear" ) . The collection gathers images of some thirty ethnic groups from around the world whose culture is now threatened with extinction. For the photographer, the intention was to save these people from oblivion by illustrating their traditions and ways of life.
This exhibition is very successful. However, some also accused of having staged his models , of wanting to apply "his" own view of these ethnic groups. Faced with these criticisms, Jimmy Nelson warns that his work is more artistic and ethnographic, where his search for a certain idealism of aesthetics. Of course, these men and women pose in front of the camera lens ... but these pictures are very beautiful and have the merit of attracting our attention towards people sometimes ignored or ignored, while Presenting the tremendous wealth of this human heritage.
